OPEN CALL – Self Published Photobooks
The theme is free, but we will especially consider projects that are innovative and relate to this year’s theme “Movement and Transition”.
Taking these keywords literally as well as metaphorically, the exhibition program and talks of 2021 will embrace contemporary themes such as migration, globalization, and post-colonial thinking, artistic movements such as Dada and Fluxus, and analysis of photographers’ libraries, to highlight their role as sources of inspiration. Genres such as historic travel guides and company books will be just as important as art publications, and we will highlight the book production in the Caribbean, Greenland, and Portugal.

The selection will be curated by Verónica Losantos and the winners will be announced on 13 September. In case you are selected, you will send us a printed copy of your book to Aarhus by 1 October. The exhibition will take place on 17 October at Godsbanen during our Open Book Market, where many books from some of the most relevant publishing houses in the photobook scene will also be on display.
Unfortunately, we don’t have the funding to send all your books back. We are very sorry for that, but in case you want to receive your printed copy back after the festival, you should then organize a transport method yourself. Otherwise, the books will remain in the Photobook Week Aarhus Collection for future exhibitions or educational purposes, which also might give your book more visibility!
